Breast augmentation, tummy tuck before after. Margaret L., 34 and manager at a pharmaceutical company, who did not want her last name used, said she had never planned on having plastic surgery. “I was pretty happy with my body,” she said. But after the birth of her son in August 2005 and subsequent weight gain, she began to feel unhappy with her breasts and spent an inordinate amount of time worrying about them when she looked in the mirror in her 4-foot-by-4-foot bathroom.

The breast augmentation and tummy tuck combination is one of the most popular cosmetic surgeries. It can be performed in our office, on an outpatient basis, under general anesthesia.
What is the breast augmentation?
The breast implant is placed beneath the chest muscle to increase the size of your breasts. The incision is made around the areola and often hidden by hair. The procedure takes about an hour and requires one week of recovery time. Patients can return to work within two weeks after surgery.
What is a tummy tuck?
A tummy tuck, also known as an abdominoplasty, removes excess skin and fat from the lower abdomen or tummy area creating a flatter, smoother silhouette. Incisions are made low on either side of your navel or in a vertical line running down from your belly button to just below your pubic area. The procedure takes two hours and requires two weeks of recovery time with some swelling and bruising lasting up to six weeks after surgery. This patient is a 34 year old female who wanted to achieve a better result from her tummy tuck and breast lift. She had previously had a tummy tuck with liposuction but was not satisfied with the results. She underwent a secondary excisional breast lift with augmentation to improve symmetry and projection of the breasts.
Breast Lift:
In this case, a keyhole incision was made around each areola. This allowed access to the inferior pole of each breast. The lower part of each breast was lifted from the chest wall and repositioned higher on the chest wall, increasing projection and symmetry.
Tummy Tuck:
A circumferential incision was made around the umbilicus (belly button). This allowed access to all four quadrants of her abdomen and also helped reduce excess skin from around her umbilicus area. All visible scarring from her previous surgeries were removed along with excess fat deposits under the skin in these areas as well as any stretch marks that were present along her abdomen, hips and buttocks areas. The remaining skin was then tightened back into place to give her a smooth contour again without any puckering or tugging at all.
Preparing for surgery
Meet with your surgeon before the day of surgery to ask questions about the doctor’s experience with tummy tucks and breast implants, your own surgery, and the results you can expect. The FDA has a list of questions that may help you with this conversation. Ask your doctor what makes you a good candidate for a tummy tuck and breast implants, and what your options are for size, shape, and surface texture. Your doctor will also review the risks and benefits of the surgery. Ask for before and after pictures of other patients so you can understand whether your expectations are realistic.
During this meeting, ask the doctor for a copy of the patient labeling for the breast implant that will be used. As a patient, it’s your right to have this information and the doctor will expect to provide it. Talk with your doctor about the risk of breast implant linked to anaplastic large cell lymphoma (BIA-ALCL). This is a rare type of non-Hodgkin lymphoma that can develop after breast implants. The exact number of cases is not known, but the most current data suggest that BIA-ALCL is seen more often after breast implants with textured surfaces instead of after those with smooth surfaces.
Your Surgical Costs
The biggest factor that will go into your surgical costs is your surgeon’s fees. While a breast enhancement specialist who is board-certified may cost more, you can rest assured that you’ll get natural-looking results. During your consultation, ask your surgeon how many breast lift surgeries he or she performs annually and take a good look at as many before and after photos as possible.
Both operating room fees and anesthesia are priced based on an hourly rate. Choosing a skilled surgeon is essential to ensuring no complications that could potentially prolong your surgery. Women that have severe aesthetic concerns that take more surgical skill can typically expect to pay a bit more.
Mommy makeover surgery is not a one-size-fits-all procedure. The procedure can be tailored to the unique needs of each person.
A mommy makeover is usually a combination of an abdominal surgery with breast surgery. But it can sometimes include operations on the arms, thighs, or buttocks.
Each woman has their own needs and desired results, making it difficult to put a general price tag on a mommy makeover.
But there are fees that will be constant during any surgery as well as fees, like cost of implants, that will be added depending on the procedures done during surgery.
