Breast Reconstruction Tummy Tuck?
Breast reconstruction is a procedure designed to restore the shape that was lost after the removal of breast cancer. At the same time, it is crucial to perform a tummy tuck if what you want to achieve is restoring your abdomen’s original contour.
The BRT procedure is performed by an experienced plastic surgeon who works with patients to create a customized surgical plan. The surgeon will examine your body and discuss your goals before developing a treatment plan that will meet your needs while also taking into account any medical concerns or risks that may be present. Once the plan has been finalized, the surgeon will perform all necessary procedures during one surgery session.
Breast Reconstruction Tummy Tuck
The swelling in your breasts can be due to the fact that you had a tummy tuck. The swelling may take several months to resolve completely.
Swelling after a tummy tuck is common and should be expected. It usually starts around day 3-5 post op and peaks around day 10-14. It is at this point that the greatest amount of fluid will collect under the skin. This fluid collection will gradually decrease over time, but it may take 6-12 months for all of the fluid to be reabsorbed by the body.
The most common areas of swelling are:
Breasts: Swelling may persist for up to 6 months after surgery, especially if you have implants placed under your pectoral muscle (submuscular). Swelling during this time is normal and should not cause concern as long as it does not impede breathing or cause pain.
Abdomen: Abdominal swelling will gradually decrease over time, but it may take up to one year before the swelling completely resolves.
The swelling is going down and you can see that the scar is healing nicely. It looks like you’re going to have a nice little belly button.

Flap Reconstruction Surgery
Swelling after tummy tuck surgery is normal. The amount of swelling will depend on the amount of surgery performed (the more skin and tissue removed, the greater the swelling), your age, and your overall health.
Surgeons always expect some degree of swelling after any surgical procedure, but it can be especially challenging after a tummy tuck due to the extent of liposuction performed as well as the degree of tension placed on the abdominal muscles during surgery.
It is important that patients understand that there is a difference between swelling and bruising following surgery. Swelling is normal, but bruising is not. Bruising happens when blood vessels leak into the surrounding tissue, causing discoloration and pain in the area. Bruising should clear up within two weeks after your surgery, but if you notice any unusual bruises or bleeding at any time afterwards, you should contact your doctor immediately.
Swelling after tummy tuck surgery is a normal part of the healing process. It can take months to see your final results, as swelling can last up to a year.
Your surgeon will work hard to reduce swelling during the operation and give you some techniques to help reduce the swelling after your surgery.
The best way to get rid of excess fluid is by using compression garments, such as elastic stockings or girdles, which are worn 24 hours a day for at least 6 weeks after surgery.
If you do not wear compression garments for this time period, you may see that your swelling comes back or even gets worse due to lymphedema (an abnormal collection of lymphatic fluid).
Breast Reconstruction Flap Vs Implant
The most common technique is called DIEP flap reconstruction. In this procedure, tissue from your lower abdomen is removed, shaped into an oval-shaped flap, and placed under your pectoralis muscle in order to recreate a breast mound. The tissue can come from either side of your abdomen and will include blood vessels and nerves that run along with it as well as muscle tissue.
Another technique for breast reconstruction involves removing tissue from your back (latissimus dorsi) or inner thigh and moving it forward toward the front of your body so that it sits over your chest wall like a hammock beneath the skin. This procedure requires two incisions: one behind each arm pit extending down toward the waistline; these incisions are made using standard surgical techniques for breast augmentation (or tummy tuck).
The swelling that occurs after a tummy tuck is very common. If it is only a small amount of swelling, then it will go away in about 2 weeks. If you have a lot of swelling and it does not go away in 2 weeks, then you need to see your surgeon again.
In my practice, I often use the breast reconstruction flap to reconstruct the breast after mastectomy. This flap uses tissue from your abdomen or back to create a new breast mound. The skin is taken from the abdomen and this flap is used to cover the implant. This procedure has been around for many years and has been proven safe and effective in creating new breasts after mastectomy or cancer treatment.
The swelling is normal. It takes awhile for the swelling to go down, you will see a difference in your body.
The only thing that I can think of when it comes to breast reconstruction is if there is any damage to the vascular system in the chest wall or if there was any infection after surgery. If either one of these things happen then it would cause fluid buildup and swelling. The other possibility would be an infection from the breast implant itself, but even this is rare. You need to see your doctor again and get their opinion on what could be causing this swelling.
