Submuscular breast implants are less likely to produce complications than subfascial implants, thus those who had them implanted under the chest muscle should wait longer before resuming to their regular activities.

Best Position To Sleep After Breast Augmentation
After breast augmentation, it is important that you sleep in the most comfortable position possible. Sleeping on your back is the best position because it will allow drainage of fluid to take place without any obstruction.
The reason why you should not sleep on your stomach or side is because when you turn over in these positions, fluid may get trapped under your implant and cause a seroma (a pocket of fluid). Sleeping flat on your back will prevent this from happening.
When Can I Sleep On My Side After Breast Augmentation?
You can start sleeping on your side once your incisions have healed completely (which usually takes about a month’s time). However, if you experience discomfort while sleeping on one side, then it is best to switch sides every few hours instead of trying to sleep continuously in one position for long durations of time.
Your surgeon will instruct you on what position and for how long to sleep elevated after breast augmentation surgery. This will vary from surgeon to surgeon as each has their own protocol.
In general, most surgeons recommend that patients sleep with their head elevated for the first 24 hours after surgery. This positioning helps reduce swelling, which can make it feel like your breasts are too tight and uncomfortable.

The best way to prevent a hematoma from forming is by keeping your arms raised above your head for 12 hours after surgery and sleeping elevated for at least 2 days. Your arms should remain slightly above heart level (10-12 inches) for the first 12 hours after surgery, then lowered down toward your waist for the next 12 hours. For example, if you had surgery in the morning, then you would sleep elevated on pillows with your arms above your head until evening time (12 noon). After that, then lower your arms below heart level but still above waist level until morning .

I recommend that you sleep elevated for at least three weeks after surgery. That means placing pillows under your head and shoulders. This will help to take pressure off of your chest, which will decrease swelling and help with drainage from the surgical site.
At about three weeks I start my patients on gentle activities such as walking and light exercise. At four weeks I start them on more strenuous activity such as swimming or light jogging, but this depends on their recovery progress so follow your surgeon’s protocol for activity level recommendations.
I do not allow my patients to sleep on their sides until they have reached full range of motion in all directions, which usually takes about 6 weeks after surgery. Some patients may be able to get away with sleeping on their sides earlier than others depending upon how well they heal, but it is important to follow your surgeon’s instructions regarding this issue because it can impact the outcome if you don’t do what they say.
